What Will DR 4.0 Look Like? In 2016, PLMA members created the “Evolution of DR” framework to help build a common understanding and language within the energy industry. They forecasted "DR 3.0" would be fully underway in 2023. Learn what’s next for DR/DER practitioners as we discuss whether the day of the "prosumer" has arrived, and where control is headed (at the grid’s edge, or centrally monitored).

Early Learnings on Advancing DERs with ADER in Texas In 2022, the Texas PUC created an Aggregated Distributed Energy Resources Taskforce in response to calls for battery participation in ERCOT. This Taskforce is now reviewing 2023 proposals. We’ll learn about its findings which have been influenced by FERC 2222, and by the proliferation of batteries and battery storage systems. These findings also include important perspectives on program design, customer engagement, pricing structures, and decarbonization.

Battery Arbitrage: Do Customers Optimize Battery Dispatch in the Presence of TOU Rates? Learn about APS’ results combining residential batteries and TOU rates for maximum grid benefits. Together, these have created a 46% average reduction in on-peak usage (1.4 kW) for APS, and bill savings of up to $40 per month for customers. However, additional grid benefits remain untapped and could still be realized though more battery discharging incentives, and through programs that augment rate incentives.

Residential VPPs and Their Role in Utility Sponsored Programs As the number of BTM resources grows, utilities seek aggregator relationships and additional DR programs. Learn from SDG&E and Swell, who’ve piloted hundreds of BTM residential battery systems, on how networking DERs into VPPs brings down customer costs and increases resilience while helping utilities manage demand. We’ll review lessons learned and best practices for program design, incentive structure, marketing, and more.
