Women in Demand Management Interest Group

Women in Demand Management

Women in Demand Management

Women play an important role in demand management leadership and delivery. Demand management is a growing area that encompasses traditional demand response, distributed energy resources, and storage. This interest group helps to promote leadership roles by encouraging greater visibility, support, and recognition of women in the industry. The group is in the process of defining its mission, objectives, and future opportunities. As part of this process, the Group founders fielded a member survey which has been fundamental for aligning the interest group’s actions with service to the PLMA membership.

Who Should Participate in Women in Demand Management?

Women and men working in the energy demand management industry are encouraged to join this group and be party of the ongoing dynamic conversation.

  • Women – Gain knowledge and perspective on how to develop and further your career in  DSM - an industry in which we still see few women in leadership positions.  Enhance your network by getting to know other women in the field.
  •
  • Men – Increase your understanding of the issues women face in our industry to: improve your team’s development and synergy, enhance your recruiting and management approach, and learn how to leverage the benefits of greater organizational diversity.

Mentoring Program Launched in 2017 (this program has ended)

The Women in Demand Management Interest Group launched a pilot Mentor/Mentee program, with five sets of matched mentors and mentees! Women in DM met in Cambridge to learn more about the mentor program and take a deep dive on career building.

About the Mentoring Program:
In line with our mission to promote leadership in our industry, the Mentor/Mentee program formalizes opportunities for collaboration and learning between female PLMA participants with varying levels of experience and background in Demand Management. This includes folks with diverse backgrounds from all types of member organizations (e.g. utilities, implementation companies and technology firms). Mentors with at least 10 years of industry experience will advise Mentees who are passionate about the industry on anything from job promotions to work/life balance.
