The 2025 PLMA Awards for "Excellence in Load Management"

Recognizing the Energy Industry's Best Flexible Load Management Initiatives

About PLMA's Awards

The prestigious “PLMA Awards of Excellence,” revamped and updated for 2025, honor individuals, institutions, industry partners, and experts who have demonstrated exceptional innovation, leadership, and dedication in advancing flexible load management practices. To qualify for nomination, their efforts in 2024 will have significantly impacted the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of energy systems, setting new standards for the energy industry, specifically in flexible load management.

The 2025 Nominations Process: Now Open

PLMA is now accepting nominations for excellent initiatives and achievements from calendar year 2024. The nomination period runs from January 15, 2025 through February 4, 2025 11:59 pm PT.

Any organization or individual, including PLMA members and non-members, may participate. Local, regional, national and international initiatives are all acceptable.

PLMA's Awards Co-Chairs will determine the number of awards it presents annually, and will work closely with its Volunteer Judges to evaluate the Finalists, based on a clear rubric of criteria.

PLMA will present the 2025 Awards of Excellence during its 2025 PLMA Spring Conference, May 5-7, in Kansas City, MO.

Awards of Excellence: A New Approach

Starting in 2025, PLMA is refocusing its awards on the concept of "excellence" in all the ways that excellence shows up in our industry. We are no longer asking you to craft an award nomination based on a category. Instead, we are looking for industry stand-outs. Start by asking yourself:

"What is excellent about this nominee?"
"How does this nominee advance the industry?"
"What persuasive facts and metrics support the claim of excellence in this case?"

Additionally, please consider the following prompts, as appropriate:

For excellence in program implementation, consider what is excellent about this nominee’s program design and delivery? How does this nominee advance the industry? What is the program reach and impact? What is the customer experience and program value?
***

For excellence in technology adoption or implementation, consider what is innovative about this nominee? What problem does it help solve that we have been struggling with as an industry? How has this nominee demonstrated potential to scale and what might be the impact of it scaling? What is the industry reach?
***

For excellence in thought leadership, consider in what ways has this nominee’s thought leadership influenced or changed the industry? What is its industry reach? What are the number and type of audience members? The industry value?
***

For excellence in supporting load management outcomes, consider is there a supporting individual, department, or organization that has gone above and beyond to ensure the success of a critical load management initiative? In what ways did their contributions, knowledge, perspective, skills, and/or efforts significantly change the direction, outcome, and/or results of the initiative for the better?
***

For other initiatives demonstrating excellence in load management, if your nominee does not fit into one of the constructs above, provide persuasive content and metrics that demonstrate the worthiness of this nominee to receive an Award of Excellence.

Guidance for Crafting a Great Award Nomination:

  1. The initiative must have ended in 2024 with clear and measurable outcomes and results to report on.

  2. Your nomination should present a compelling narrative with persuasive facts and metrics.

  3. Shorter narratives are preferrable – around five paragraphs is a good length and bullet points are helpful.

  4. Identify the utility(ies) and other organizations/partners involved. Be sure they are aware that they are being included in your nomination, and that being named publicly is acceptable to them.
