Carbon Accounting and Mitigation Strategies in the Commercial and Industrial Sector
Large C&I customers are focusing increasingly on carbon accounting, reporting, and adopting decarbonization solutions, especially as ESG reporting requirements evolve. Join us to review the landscape for carbon mitigation policies, mandates, and initiatives that require attention from utilities and their C&I customers. We’ll showcase decarb solutions, green power purchasing programs, RECs, and more, all specific to the needs of C&I customers.

Case Study Workshop: Newfoundland Power's EV Load Management Pilot Project
In this hands-on workshop, PLMA's Customer Engagement Co-Chairs will first discuss the fundamentals of value proposition development. Then, Canadian utility Newfoundland Power will present a case study which focuses on an interesting EV customer engagement challenge that is constraining the roll-out of their EV pilot. Finally, attendees will work in small groups to address this customer engagement issue and will report out their ideas and recommended next steps to the utility. Don't miss a chance to test your problem-solving chops in this supportive, collegial session!

Accelerating Electrification Through Rate Reform
Rate reform is essential to accelerating electrification for a sustainable energy future. Join us as we delve into rate structures and their impact on electrification. We’ll discuss electrification drivers and challenges; explore the relationship between electrification, utility rates, and energy costs/burdens; hear about Con Ed’s work navigating the intersection between electrification and rate structures; and learn about PG&E’s solutions to addressing electrification’s rate-related challenges.

Let's Hear from the (EV and EVSE) OEMs
Delivering a successful utility EV program, whether focused on infrastructure or managed charging, requires coordination across a number of different stakeholders, including the utility, utility vendors, and OEMs.  In this session, we're going to hear from OEMs specifically, gaining their perspective on what it takes to deliver successful utility EV programs and how they see efforts to integrate two very large industries (utility and automotive) playing out over the coming years.

Building a Grid Services Sandwich With DERs, One Slice at a Time
Combining flexible load and grid operations into one implementation is complex, requiring grid benefits, technologies, customer experience considerations, and an appropriate business model. Using a sandwich analogy, does the combo of grid benefits (meat), technologies (veggies), customer experience (condiments), and the business model (bread), result in a “BLT” or a club sandwich? Join us to discuss the ingredients for Sparking DER as a Grid Resource + discussions on a future PLMA Grid Services Symposium.

ESG Reporting: Are You Ready for the SEC Deadline?
The pending deadline for the SEC’s new reporting requirements around Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals adds a new layer of complexity for all publicly traded organizations, including utilities. Accurately reporting decarbonization, DR/DER results, environmental stewardship, and community engagement will require new data collection approaches and analysis. Learn how the energy industry can accelerate its progress toward both achieving and reporting its ESG goals.

Deploying a Residential Integrated DSM Platform for a Decarbonized Future
To support the deployment of efficient, connected, automated DR products and systems, the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) maintains the CEE Integrated Home Initiative platform to enable seamless communications among residential devices and the grid. It also administers the Integrated Home Competition to reward manufacturers developing efficient connected technologies. In this session, we’ll discuss ways to advance voluntary programs that bundle energy efficiency and demand flexibility, focusing on:

  • Managing for the most impactful grid and customer benefits via DR-enabled residential buildings.
  • The role of efficient, DR-enabled products in VPPs and BYOD programs.
  • The role of demand flexible devices in jurisdictions with variable residential rates.
  • Achieving connectivity via open standards (e.g. CTA2045 and OpenADR).
  • Enabling grid services through a manufacturer’s cloud connection.
  • Encouraging the deployment of efficient, demand flexible products and buildings.

Power Shift: How Virtual Power Plants and Demand Flexibility Can Drive Affordable Decarbonization
A recent RMI report includes a framework for understanding: 1) the role of demand flexibility in reducing power-sector carbon emissions, 2) the impact potential of demand flexibility through a national-scale dispatch study, 3) an in-depth resource planning case study, and 4) policy recommendations to ensure VPPs and demand flexibility meet their decarbonization potential. Join us to discuss the findings of this report and to compare experiences with VPPs and decarbonization efforts.
