Austin Energy was one of the first to successfully harness the BYOT (Bring Your Own Thermostat) concept. It did so by partnering with technology manufacturers, and actively promoting the utilization of open standards and protocols to effectively integrate the BYOT participants into their residential DR program. The utility enhanced its legacy C&I DR programs utilizing a similar strategy that incorporates open protocols and EPRI’s Demand Response Automation System in its C&I AutoDR program. An example of the results are that one building that historically was able to reduce load by about 25 KW per event has increased its load shedding to over 100 KW with Auto DR.

Scott has been a Consulting Engineer with Austin Energy since 2007 working in demand response and energy efficiency program design, implementation and management. Prior to his current role, Scott was an Engineer Associate/Supervising Engineer with Austin Energy for 14 years. He is a licensed Engineer and certified as a Professional Project Manager with Project Management Institute and Certified Energy Manager with Association of Energy Engineers.

Paul Miles

As Manager of Marketing Technical Services for PECO, an Exelon Company, Paul Miles has managed a team providing support to all customer classes related to energy efficiency and demand response since 2001. He played a key role in the development of PECO’s first Energy Efficiency & Conservation plan, involving a DR requirement to reduce system peak load by 355 MW over the top 100 hours. Today Paul provides oversight for PECO’s suit of web based customer information data systems and the remaining post Act 129 DR program, PECO’s Smart A/C Saver air conditioning cycling program.

Who Should Attend. Utility and regulatory staff as well as other energy industry trade allies and organizations seeking thought leadership and insight on innovative demand response methods to meet peak energy load needs, mitigate price, and manage variable generation.
How DR Dialogue Works. When you register, you may submit a comment or question in advance. After brief introductions, the two featured speakers will have an informal 30-minute conversation. You're welcome to use a speaker phone so an unlimited number of people may participate. After the Dialogue, you will receive a recording web link. Unable to participate on this day and time?
