Rich Barone is the Manager of the Demand Response department at Hawaiian Electric, and co-chair of the PLMA DER Integration Interest Group. He provides leadership and direction in DR strategy, business cases, technologies and program portfolio and market development. Rich works across process areas and the three Hawaiian Electric utilities to optimize DR and Distributed Energy Resources to foster customer choice and system reliability while supporting the state’s clean energy goals. Rich joined Hawaiian Electric with over 15 years of strategic planning, early-stage technology assessment, software development and system integration expertise. His most recent experience is as Associate Director in Emerging Technologies at Navigant Consulting. In that role, his primary focus was in Demand Response and Smart Grid. Prior to his tenure with Navigant, Rich was employed by Pacific Controls, Inc. as VP, Smart Grid Services. Rich holds a M.S. in Energy Technology & Policy and an M.B.A. in Entrepreneurship from the University of Colorado. He earned an MS in E-commerce Application Development from Columbia University and he holds a dual B.A. in English and Philosophy from Boston College. |

Dain Nestel is Director, West Business Development with ecobee, and co-chair of PLMA's Award Planning Group. Dain’s experience includes leading the development of a progressive behavioral demand response (BDR) product, running portfolio energy efficiency programs in the Southwestern United States as well as spearheading business development. He’s passionate about the potential of stronger customer engagement to unlock enhanced energy solutions for consumers and utilities alike. Dain has presented and co-authored material for PLMA, Cleantech Forum, BECC, the ACI National Home Performance Council, and WE Magazine. |
Who Should Attend. Utility and regulatory staff as well as other energy industry trade allies and organizations seeking thought leadership and insight on innovative demand response methods to meet peak energy load needs, mitigate price, and manage variable generation.
How DR Dialogue Works. When you register, you may submit a comment or question in advance. After brief introductions, the two featured speakers will have an informal 30-minute conversation.
