Impacts of Tariffs on Medium and Heavy Duty EV Fleet Adoption

DATE / TIME: Thursday, August 4, 1:00 to 2:00 pm ET

Hosted by PLMA's Electric Transportation Interest Group

Guest Speaker: Beia Spiller, Resources for the Future (RFF)

Electric Trans

Curious about the impact of electric tariffs on fleet transportation electrification? In this Conversation, Beia Spiller,  Director of Transportation with RFF will discuss the importance of electric tariffs in commercial fleet electrification decisions, as well as demand and decarbonization impacts associated with a variety of tariff structures.

This presentation will include a detailed overview of a collaborative project between RFF, Environmental Defense Fund, CALSTART, University of Illinois, and North Carolina State University who together identified the impact of electricity tariffs on electricity bills, peak demands, and emissions through the use of a simulation model.

Given the potential for impacts to vary across fleet type, the group simulated a variety of fleet types including transit buses, delivery trucks, refuse trucks, and school buses, based on observed diesel fleet data. Preliminary findings suggest that time-variable demand charges provide large incentives to reduce demand while also allowing for significant cost savings for the fleet.

About the Electric Transportation Interest Group

The PLMA Electric Transportation Interest Group will address the growing popularity of electric transportation across the U.S. and beyond, and its impacts on demand response, grid reliability, and beneficial electrification. Attendees can expect to develop a deeper understanding of ET trends, share best practices, and learn more about how utilities and vendors can work together to advance this important new opportunity. PLMA member practitioners will gain knowledge from industry experts as they discuss electric transportation, plus the infrastructure and data needs of light-duty, heavy-duty, and electric fleets.

Who Should Attend HOT TOPICS?

Staff of PLMA member organizations are welcome to join in any HOT TOPIC conversation. If you are interested in a topic, please plan to join us! If you are curious about a particular Interest Group and would like to better understand its focus and work, please participate. And, if you have colleagues within your organization who you think may find a TOPIC interesting, please invite them to log in too.

How HOT TOPICS Work

HOT TOPICS are all about engaging PLMA member practitioners in conversations about important current issues affecting dynamic load management, including demand response, and distributed energy resources. Tune in for an online conversation and chat with the PLMA Interest Groups. Join us to participate, learn, or just listen. You’ll gather key insights and ideas from across the PLMA membership.
