Voices of Experience: Residential Demand Charges at Electric Cooperatives
Thursday, February 17, 2022 12:30 to 1:30 pm ET
Hosted by the Retail Pricing Interest Group
Advances in information and communications technology have made it possible to offer innovative rate structures that more closely align retail rates with costs and send a more accurate price signal to consumers. Some electric cooperatives have implemented mandatory residential demand charges to manage wholesale costs and help their members save on their electric bills by reducing peak usage.
These three co-ops, Mid-Carolina Electric in South Carolina, Butler Electric in Kansas and Platte-Clay Electric in Missouri, were among the first to implement residential demand charges and now have several years of lessons learned and best practices to share.
Join us to learn from their experiences: From economic justification and billing challenges to educating members on their new rate.

About the Retail Pricing Interest Group
The PLMA Retail Pricing Interest Group seeks to examine a variety of demand response, energy efficiency, and other system retail pricing rates and programs, independent of any specific technology or solution. It will collect and selectively share summaries, excerpts, and/or full text from published, and not-so-public documentation, including utility pilots and program evaluations, plus reports and white papers that cover rates/program evaluations, program design concepts, market assessments, savings potential, and more.
