Austin Energy’s Commercial Energy Efficiency and Demand Response team is responsible for developing programs and incentives that benefit commercial customers and multifamily properties. These programs must develop new strategies and approaches to meet the City of Austin’s ambitious clean energy and climate goals. Our demand-side programs are increasingly important to ensure our local smart grid is resilient and flexible in the face of growing weather extremes and changing generation resources. This position will lead the design and deployment of new and updated programs and incentives, with a focus on: 1) improving adoption of beneficial electrification technologies, such as heat pumps; 2) improving demand response participation for multifamily and small/medium commercial customers; and 3) improving/updating current program processes and practices.

This position is in Austin, TX and will require in-person coordination with local stakeholders and businesses. Majority telework schedules are currently allowed, but this position will require an in-office presence and customer site visits. Field work may require the use of ladders and other tools/equipment. Typical work schedules (to be coordinated with the supervisor) are weekdays, starting between 7 and 9am.

Primary duties will include:

  • Designing and delivering new and updated energy efficiency and demand response programs and incentives for commercial customers and multifamily properties.
  • Thorough program evaluation and analysis, supporting the development of new and revised program offerings, and updating technical guidelines, program processes, and program policies.
  • Developing and implementing new strategies to improve beneficial electrification, such as leading outreach and development of new incentives that encourage customers, equipment distributors, and installation contractors to adopt electric heat pumps and other technologies.
  • Developing and implementing new strategies to improve demand response adoption, particularly for multifamily and small/medium commercial customers, for both new construction and existing buildings.
  • Developing and implementing updated construction incentives for commercial customers and multifamily properties that encourage energy efficiency and demand response.
  • Leading outreach and engagement with key internal and external stakeholder groups, including community and business groups; installation contractors; technology or equipment manufacturers and distributors; and local engineering and design firms.
